Well, Nikolai's attitude was proving to very agreeable! In contrast to a certain Savage she'd been contending with recently, it was nice to have an adventuring partner who was so positive. Another grin spread across her face, the gunner pumping one arm into the air with excitement. It was a little silly, but hey, she was a little silly herself. When things weren't so dire, anyway.
"It's been too long since I've just gone on a normal adventure! Oh, but I guess this is still pretty different from 'normal', considering how low my level is. Still!"Her eyes followed the man's gaze, quickly spotting the pet that had sauntered off ahead of them. An involuntary noise of joy escaped her mouth - the kind of cute little squeal that you gave when you saw something especially adorable.
"Aww, what a cutie! Here, that reminds me --"It only took a few moments of menu navigating for Burgundy to find her own pet and summon it in a flash of light. Her Oina of Vitality, Vermilion, ruffled its fur and glanced around a moment.
"I'm a terrible pet owner - I never remember to take her out except when I'm in towns. Hopefully, she can get some experience while we're here." And it would be cute if she could make a little friend, but Vermilion was a bit standoffish, so she wasn't really expecting much luck on that front. Her attention shifted back to the path ahead of them.
"Anyway. That distraction aside... shall we be off?"The steps leading up into the temple weren't terribly long, nor was the entrance itself very lengthy to traverse. Only a few steps inside led to what seemed to be a large, vaguely circular room that extended out into the darkness. It was hard to gauge how far it went with how little they could actually see.
"This room should be empty," she commented, the sound of her boots clacking on stone echoing out around them.
"Just walk a few more steps, and --"As if right on schedule, their surroundings became illuminated by a ring of sconces lighting up in pairs. It only took a few moments for the entire room to become well-lit, revealing the details of the chamber. It was indeed the shape of a ring, high-vaulted walls coming up to a dome above. The inside of the dome depicted a scene of the sky, half a beautiful sunrise and the other a starry night. Below them, the tiles seemed to depict a great procession of robed figures within a dazzling city of gold.
"According to my research, I think this scene is supposed to be one of the Elves entering the realm of the Gods. Y'know, that thing that didn't end up happening."It was so interesting to think of something like this art as something created by a real race of people, rather than a bit of world-building from a game designer.
"There's a door at the back of the hall that leads further down. That's about as far as I got - the hallway at the bottom of the stairs had some monsters in it when I came last time. Couldn't get around 'em, so that's as far as I've been."Little Vermilion seemed wholly unimpressed with her surroundings, choosing to sit directly on the face of what might've been an image of a god in order to groom herself. Hopefully that wasn't Anu..
