Pet System
A pet system was re-introduced into "The World R:Fusion" as one of CC Corp's various attempts at restoring part of Fragment's features. Long ago it was the grunties that were acquired as pets, which became mounts after raising them to a certain point. Various new pets have been brought to light with R:Fusion's release, some of which have yet to be introduced into the early game, but will hopefully be brought out as The World expands further!
Overview
Pets have different roles in the gameplay of a player depending on their type. Mounts, for example, will not aid as much in battle but will be handy to have for getting across places quickly and ambushing a group of enemies. Pets that specialize in aiding a player in battles will be able to do different things depending on their ability. There are pets that augment a party's defense, for example, as well as pets who only augment a single player's specific stats or even put debuffs or curses on enemies.
Pets in PVE (player vs environment)
Some pets do not only buff a player's stats. They can also inflict damage upon enemies. However, damage inflicted by a pet is always very small, so that it would not become significant in deciding any battle for the player that owns it.
Neither a mount or battle type pet will get targeted by monsters, so there is no risk in them getting killed out in the battlefield. The only exception to this would be if the pet's special ability is to attract enemy aggro, in which case the pet will be targeted (if successful) and receive damage. In this case, a player handles the pet's hp the same way they handle their own character's hp in battles. They choose when the pet has been given enough damage that it should "faint" (pets do not die) and thus return to their inventory. If a pet faints, they can be revived either by returning to a root town (in which case it revives automatically), or it can regenerate its own hp after a long time of resting in a player's inventory (ie. the pet cannot be used in any other immediate battle after it has fainted).
There are some pets that can help defend, but do not necessarily attract an enemie's aggro. Pets such as grunties(defense) and dragons defend by slightly reducing the damage received by the player the same way a buffer increases a player's defense.
Pets in PVP (player vs player)
Pets are generally not allowed in official player vs player matches (ie. CC Corp-held tournaments, or the like). However, in non-official pvp matches (ie. general dungeon/field runs with other players) pets are allowed to aid against other users as if it were a normal monster battle, so players are allowed to inflict damage on the pets of other players and forcibly cause them to faint. The pet's HP would be handled the same way it is handled in PVE and the pet's owner gets to decide when it has received enough damage that it should return to the inventory.
Like player characters, Pets also grow through the gaining of levels, which equal to the player's posts. However, pets have to be upgraded to the player's account individually, so some guidelines must be followed for this to work:
1. Pets gain levels the same way a player does, using the same experience equation of (n-1) + 5 where n is your current level.
2. They only need to be reported to the Character Upgrades thread so the staff can give them their personality.
3. As long as the pet is stated as being 'present' (as if it were a character itself) in any of your posts in a thread, it will gain the levels that go according to the sum of all your posts in that thread.
4. Pets grow into teen-hood at lvl 5 and become full adults at lvl 10. They learn to speak after they become adults.
5. Sprites can use basic elemental attacks when teens, and up to intermediate magic attacks when adults.
6. Mount-type pets can only be mounted when they are full adults, but they can help attack/defend a little during their teenhood.
7. Oina automatically increase the stats of the user according to their type since childhood, but do not learn to attack until their adulthood.

Raising your pet

ELEMENTAL SPRITE
Like chimchims, sprites are one of the few beings left in the earth whom still possess the Light of the Gods. They are born out of a specific element in times of peace and like to take the appearance of the first living being they see. Consequently, that being will also become the 'mother'. After a certain level, they acquire access to their hidden elemental powers and utilize it to fight alongside its master. Their colors reflect the element they belong to.

OINA OF POWER
Magical creatures said to have been born from and shaped after a Mountain Spirit that governs the Northern Wind. This particular type of Oina favors strength and power. Though they tend to be filled with wanderlust in their youth, they become loyal companions once they've fully grown and can even aid their master in combat by increasing their master's strength, defense, and critical hit ratio as well as attacking itself.

DRAGON MOUNT
Long ago, dragons soared and thrived in The World in great numbers. They seemed to have disappeared ever since the Battle of the Gods, however. Only one had been noted to still roam the earth under the name of The Twilight Dragon, and only a select few have ever actually seen it. But both humans and beasts believe that if there is even one dragon alive, there are bound to be more. Dragons come as new mounts, a method of transportation across fields, in R:Fusion. They start out as hatchlings and as they are raised they become fearsome, fire-breathing adults the size of a large horse.

VENGEFUL SPIRIT
The spirit of a dog god which used to be worshiped by a mountain village long ago. The dog god had been a benevolent spirit at first, granting humble wishes to its people such a better harvests or lessened sickness around the village. The village became abandoned however and the god forgotten. The god became a vengeful spirit and descended the mountain to haunt the adventurers who trekked by. However, a number of players have been able to tame this spirit and direct its vindictive curses toward their enemies instead. They are very ominous companions to have around. They aid their master by inflicting enemies with debuffs and increasing its master's resistance to ailments. When the spirit reaches full maturity it inflicts enemies with ailments as well.

CLEARSKY PARROT
A breed of parrot specific to the port city, Nifl Phant, they are easily distinguished by their blue skin and white puffy feathers. Though initially hunted in pursuit of their wings, the parrots' abilities to detect severe winds soon made them invaluable to the city. They are now a symbol of Nifl Phant and can be found in many capacities around the area. Clearsky Parrots primarily aid their masters through support magic, slightly boosting both physical and magical defense and evasion if summoned or present at the start of a battle. At adulthood, the birds can fire a cone of razor-sharp winds from their beaks for minor wind damage.

ASCA "Hecatoncheir"
The first of its kind, the Autonomous Steam-Crest Armor "Hecatoncheir" is the product of mages and engineers working together to create advanced battle gear. The Hecatoncheir is stylish, extremely durable, equipped with steam-powered boots that can boost its jumps, and four usable arms. It can operate independently from its user in order to soak up damage, but it can also be worn as a protective powered exoskeleton. While worn, the two top arms are used for the wearer's regular weapons, and the auxiliary limbs permit the usage of items without pausing an attack. They can also be used to punch a foe in melee, if necessary.
The Hecatoncheir can be given a custom paintjob for purely aesthetic reasons.

PIPPY PARADE
Based on a low level card from one of the many The World TCG's, Pippy Parade changes with the seasons. The trio of tiny peeping chicks may be decked out for a summer day at the beach now but as the months pass and holidays come and go their outfits cycle through dozens of different things. From warm sweaters in the winter to cupid costumes during Valentine's Day, their cuteness knows no bounds.
Abilities: Pippy Parade's effects are entirely cosmetic. It can be activated in any field to add the effect Pippy Party to all monsters and players. Affected units are equipped with a cosmetic accessory corresponding to what Pippy Parade is wearing; this effect lasts until the player gates out or dies.

SUNSHINE SPRITE
These cute little creatures are the latest creation of the Mag Civialis Mage's Guild - Sunshine Sprites! Born from experiments on the elemental creatures of The World, these helpful little pals are animated magical energy given the shape of a ball of sentient light. Though generally helpful, they come in a wide variety of colors and temperaments. When deployed on a field, the sprites passively hover in a slow orbit around their master, gathering energy. Once they have enough, they can fire a single beam of energy to deal damage to the nearest foe! The type of damage varies based on their 'breed' - Bright Sprites (yellow/white) deal light damage, Blaze Sprites (orange/red) deal fire damage, and the rare Shiver Sprites (blue) deal ice damage! Each color tends to be friendly, but this is a pet you might want to think twice before petting.

lim.ed. PHOENIX
A mystical bird with the ability to revive itself and its partner through the use of spiritual flames after death. Even rarer than the nearly extinct dragons, the phoenix had lied dormant in the heirloom of a Spirit Master for near-millennia. But now it has been set free by the Spirit Master, so that it may once again fly through the skies of The World. They start out as a little chick that is able to peck monsters and breath fire as damage. Upon reaching adulthood, it is able to revive its partner upon death, once per thread.

lim.ed. SQUIDLY
Previously restricted to water, this species of squid has learned to exist in the surface world as well. Because of the squidly's squishy body and lack of bones, as babies they tend to ride on their owner's shoulders, arm, or head. As they grow older, their bodies grow bigger and their muscles stronger. During teen and adulthood, they are capable of moving about on their own. However, while squidlies are known to constrict their enemies, they are also known to be rather clingy to their owners. Constricting an enemy is more or less a means of distraction, but squidlies do also have a poison ink attack that has a 50% chance of inflicting Poison.
