//RUMORS
Life is good in The World. You go in, team up with friends, kill monsters, level up, and gain money. There are quests with enticing rewards and pets of mysterious origins. Everything is fine. Everyone is happy. So where do these strange rumors come from...? Here's what you can do with these rumors:
new!
Title: The Food has ... flavor?
Author: 10/10would_do_it_again
Location: Mac Anu Tavern
"So, me and my buds have been seeing this tall, dark-haired guy in Mac Anu eating food like he was actually enjoying it. Weird, right? We figured he was just RPing or something so left it at that for a while.
But then one of my friends tried some Sweet Curry Over Rice at the Mac Anu Tavern after that same guy bought one. My friend was curious, so he tried it. Here’s the kicker: he said the Sweet Curry Over Rice actually had flavour. I tried a bite, and sure enough: it tasted like curry. Like, real curry. It’s so bizarre cuz it’s not like there’s anything in my mouth IRL, you know?
It's been a week since then with no sign of that roleplayer, but the Sweet Curry Over Rice still has flavor. It's so mind blowing. You gotta check it out. I’m tellin’ ya: it’s the real deal!"
Title: Gated
Author: JadedChaotic
Location: Dol Dona, Θ Inviting Insatiable Gate
"Me and my partner got tired of hunting for noobs in Delta, so we decided to try Theta instead. Lo and behold, we've barely been loitering around the Chaos Gate for ten minutes when this sorry-looking squirt comes walking up to it.
We chat this kid up and get him to join our party. He's pretty quiet, only said hi in the chat and gave us a set of keywords, no mic, but whatever. Off we go to the dungeon, thinking we're about to have some fun. The second we get there, this kid's nowhere to be seen, we're in some mansion's foggy-ass entrance hall, and the Chaos Gate behind us is broken. Like, literally, it was in pieces on the ground. What the hell?
No way we're getting screwed around with by some smartass hacker, so we disconnected. I tried entering the same dungeon by myself later, and the Chaos Gate was just fine. There was no fog, either. Super weird. Of course I left immediately 'cause I didn't want to waste my time, but you know what? I thought I saw the same brat and some fog out of the corner of my eye while Gating Out. Watch out for this creepy loser if you're hunting in Theta."
Title: Floor 36
Author: Personal_Adonis
Location: Any dungeon area
"So there was this weird dungeon I went to... it kind of reminded me of R:1 dungeons, almost? It was pretty blocky, and every time I went down a floor, it popped up this weird message that said, "You hear somebody crying far away". Anyway, I went all the way down to the Gott Statue and grabbed the loot, but I never found any crying NPC.
You'd think a smart person would've just left. I'm not a smart person. I went to look around the loot room, and I found a door that looked like it went further downstairs behind the statue, and I went down. The statue was on F5, but when I went down, sure enough, it popped up the message again and I was on F6.
I kept going, and going, and it kept on giving me more floors. I think I took a pee break at around F15 when the message changed to "You hear somebody crying".
Then, something about the dungeon generator... broke. You know how things got messed up in old handheld games if you went to a bugged area and did things just right (or wrong) enough and you'd end up in kind of a Glitch City, I guess, or a parallel "world" where everything's tiled wrong, there's barely any enemies, and you have trouble finding a way forward?
It was kind of like that. I kept managing to find my way around the weird terrain generation, but it kept placing stacked doors and piles of endless breakables in the middle of pathways. So many dead ends. Eventually, around F30, the message changed to "You hear somebody crying on Floor 36. It heard you, too.".
I couldn't make it there, though. All paths I could find were blocked. I couldn't go back, either, the stairs up didn't work.
Had to log out and contact support to report it and port me back to Mac Anu. I checked the dungeon out just now, by the way - I think it's fixed.
By the way, I heard crying just before I logged out."
Title: I actually hate this game.
Author: o_you_don't_have_the_right
Location: Any castle-type dungeon
"I was clearing a castle-type dungeon with nobody other than myself and me (because I'm a loser and don't have any friends, yeah, yeah, don't start with the "why are you playing an MMO solo" stuff), and first thing I notice, place's got all animated object-style monsters. You ever fought a swarm of flying teacups? A table that made Grunty noises and kept demanding a melon? Ever heard a bunch of breakable pots cry while you smash 'em?
It was pretty bizarre, honestly. Anyway, so I made it to the end of the place and went to pop the treasure chest open, and it bit me! It honest to any deities you believe in bit me! Like, it took off half my HP and everything.
A cool-looking weapon came out of the chest and I got the normal "you've received" popup, but it disappeared so fast I didn't even get to see the name of it. It floated in front of me, and then it literally told me, get this:
"You don't have the qualifications to wield me, you fool!"
And then it literally laughed at me and FLEW AWAY. I kept chasing it across the dungeon, but it never wedged itself in any dead ends, and I'm not nearly fast enough to catch a flying broadsword. To add insult to injury? Just when I thought I was getting close to grabbing it, it flew out through a window and noclipped out of the map.
Seriously, CC? You're gonna do that to me? I'm going to uninstall."
Title: Death trap at the bottom of a ship
Author: Lovely_blue
Location: Haunted Ship Dungeon Area
"It was dark and empty inside the belly of the ship. There was just the two of us in there. The bow bobbed something fierce in the water and was really loud. Even worse were the floorboards--the noise they caused made me wish they'd break already. All in all, it was mostly empty.
My friend and I almost quit the boring place until we found a secret compartment with stairs in the captain's cabin. We went down of course. I think the stairs lead us underneath the ballast. There were no windows, but the spray of water sounded really close. Guess what we found? A treasure chest, finally, in the middle of the hall. We opened the chest and got a system prompt but, it was blank. I look back at the box but, it had already disappear. In its stead was a large, chipped hole, like a mouth. We could see a couple of stairs leading down, but it was too dark to see anything past the third step.
It's at this point that I realized the bgm had cut off. I was like "oh hell no." But my friend is a fearless idiot, so he went down. I waited for him to tell me it was safe. I waited for like ten minutes and even sent private messages but he never replied. 15 minutes later, I get a phone call from my friend, who is sobbing because his character was somehow killed and sent to town and it has an irreparable Seal debuff on it. We ended up asking a GM for help, but when he took his staff back out, it had a distinct hand print on it that it didn't have before. He thought it was awesome, of course. But like hell we're going back there!"
Title: Met a strange cat
Author: CriticalHit14
Location: Dol Dona, Any area in Theta
"Me and my friends met a strange black cat the other day. Saying 'met' is silly, I know, but it could talk. We saw it lounging on a tree, off the beaten road of Theta Root Town. It was night time in town, so if it wasn't because a ray of moonlight had hit its yellow eyes, I would never have noticed. But, since I noticed, I told my friends 'Bet I can knock it down' and walked to it with my spear. I just barely reached it when it opened its mouth and said, 'How many times have you died?'.
I got spooked and fell. My friends jeered at me.
'I don't know.' I angrily told the cat. 'Three times. I've been unlucky.' said Misaki. 'Hah. I've only died once.' said Momo. The cat didn't say anything else no matter how we tried to talk to it, so we left for a field. In the field, Misaki died after three hits of a super weak mob. Momo died after just one hit. And I...I didn't die no matter how many times I got hit. We went back to that tree, but we didn't see the cat. We waited until nightfall and met the cat again, on a lower branch. We really wanted that invincibility, but the cat asked us a different question: 'What's the longest you've taken in killing a monster?'. We looked at each other and each gave a different response. Then the cat went silent, like the first time. Momo dropped dead after just 5 minutes inside of a dungeon afterward. Misaki died in 10 minutes. I waited to see what would happen and evidently died at the 20 minute mark. By the third time we met the cat, I noticed it wasn't up in the tree anymore. 'How many monsters have you killed?' it asked. I was a little concerned over all the death questions, but we answered with some bogus high number this time. We didn't die a single time during the next run. It was an amazing cheat. But we never met the cat again after that.
I bought a grunty the following day and was surprised; in my pet inventory, was a black cat with yellow eyes. The name slot read "Death Seeker". I immediately tried to summon it, but the system kept calling it an error. I admit it was a little scary, but nothing bad happened to me even with the cat in my pets list. It went away after some days."
Title: Don't let him in
Author: Solitary_Falcon_on_The_Wind
Location: A Temple Dungeon Area
"I was a few feet away from the clearance box when I died.
Didn't even get the dungeon clearance reward. A Gott Statue stood behind the chest, as you'd expect, but maybe because the dungeon was modeled after a temple, the Statue wasn't the usual image of Folset with his fists bumped together. I couldn't tell which god the statue represented, to be honest.
Either way, I'm there trying to collect my loot, but when I tried to kick open the chest, instead of a popup with my due rewards, I get a prompt to create a party. There was no one else in that room. I click no, thinking it's a malfunction and kick the chest a second time. Again that party request pops up. I clicked yes this time out of curiosity and the next thing I know, I'm sprawled on the floor looking up at the ceiling. There's a bleed status blinking at me on the UI. I admit I only had a shred of hp left at the time. Who needs to heal when you're about to beat the dungeon? Anyways, my character slowly dies facing up and I noticed the statue's eyes for some reason; they were facing down, as if looking at me.
I rage quit the game.
It's pretty frustrating to get killed by a bug just as you're about to finish a hard dungeon. Can you believe I get another party request as soon as I log back into the Root Town? I accepted so I could curse at the prick through the party chat. But then I was shocked to find that my character had bleed again--and poison! In town! Damned hacker! I relog after leaving the party and thankfully the bleed is gone, but I get another party request immediately. Like hell I'm partying with that guy again. Although now that I think back on it, I don't think the party request ever had a sender's name on it."
Life is good in The World. You go in, team up with friends, kill monsters, level up, and gain money. There are quests with enticing rewards and pets of mysterious origins. Everything is fine. Everyone is happy. So where do these strange rumors come from...? Here's what you can do with these rumors:
01. Investigate by heading to the location stated in the rumors. If it's a field or dungeon, you'll have to create the area thread yourself.
02. Question the validity of these rumors in the main BBS board. Some players may have already tried them out and could give you tips.
03. Some rumors are open ended, which means that whatever happens after the end...is up to you to imagine and rp it out yourself.
04. Every rumor is an adventure waiting to happen, but some of these rumors may be harmful to your character. If your character ends up with glitches, don't be afraid to seek out a GM to get yourself fixed. If a GM player is not available, you can play it out icly as if you've received a GM's help in fixing you anyway.
