That awkward moment when she watched another player grab the same ingredients momentarily trapped her in a state of unresponsiveness, invisible cameras catching them from various angled perspectives and zooming in to each of their frozen expressions. Before she could react and address the elephant in the room, Count released his Wailing Bats as they screeched and flew away, unsafely maneuvering themselves around the kitchen against unfortunate random objects.

"I-I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! I wasn't paying attention to what everyone else was doing--" She panicked, and her mind automatically decided to command her to whip the magic apology word out in an attempt to make both parties feel better about their blunder. Mostly hers, because she took pride at being usually observant, yet she had missed this completely and that was a smear on her self-proclaimed positive trait. How could she ever nominate herself for the Cultural Festival Committee like this?!

Admittedly, in their own ways, Macaron was almost convinced that they were both about to cry while looking at each other if not for the well-timed intervention from Yamabiko-Incubus. He shared his wise insight and suggested for Nobiagari-Count to switch his focus to the Red Oni's Tears, one of the ingredients still needed by the party for the Dew Brews. Thank goodness for him calmly listing out their options for task division - truly the most peaceful and diplomatic resolution to their current predicament. An instant ice breaker, and one that Macaron found easy to follow up on.

"That's a great idea. Thank you...!" Now she looked like she was going to cry out of extremely overwhelming gratitude as she bowed deeply for Yamabiko-Incubus. "In that case, I'll get to brewing the Moon Brews and then..." She looked around, catching glimpses of Aster's brewing efficiency as his PC moved swiftly between tasks. Seeing that he was focused on brewing the Peach Brews now, she should take up the responsibility of gathering another ingredient.

"...I'll look for the Flaming Spiders."

With that, she returned to finishing up on the Moon Brews before embarking on yet another brief adventure in search of some Flaming Spiders.

Summary: You have entered the mysterious Moon Cave, but it seems everyone is too busy with preparations for Lord Orochi’s ceremony to pay you any mind. Cook, the resident chef in charge, on the other hand, is thrilled at the appearance of free labor and immediately puts you to work in creating the last item needed to complete Lord Orochi's feast: Ritual Sake. The quest is triggered immediately after stepping into the first subarea of Moon Cave. The chef npc will rush you down and demand your help in the kitchen. It is best you listen to his demands because remember: you're pretending to be some sort of Oni to get into the dungeon and you don't want any of the dungeon's residents to become suspicious of you! Unless you hide yourself, leaving and returning to the area will always draw Cook's attention and he will ask you for the progress of your task every time.

"There is no need to apologize, Nekomata. I have committed a mistake by not appropriately communicating my intent. Please accept my depeest apologies in return." Count bowed his head, ears hanging limply. That brought his attention back to the note in his hands, which he'd diverted his eyes to.

"Yamabiko is making sense. I shall take care of the tears, and... I... will..."

Just before Aster snatched his note, Count had managed to read it in full - and quickly screenshot it for his own archive of Things that Incubus Had Sent Him In Private - briefly turning the brightest, most luminous red from tip of ear to tip of toe, nearly superheating to the point where he'd loop right back around to being all-white. For some time, even after his note had migrated to Aster's hands and subsequently his cauldron, Count could only manage to make one sound.

That being the quietest droning "eeeee", like he was whispering a scream, which is essentially what he was doing.

It took him a little bit to be able to actually move, but when he did, he'd left the kitchen most expediently to take out his emotions on some hapless red oni. He would have their tears, one way or another.

"IWILLBEBACKSOON!" He yelled - in the same way that a traditional kettle whistling on the stove was a yell - as he left, finishing the sentence he'd trailed off on, earlier.

Blinking, Incubus looked up from his very vigorous brewing work as Count trailed off suddenly. He got treated to the sight of his companion turning an alarmingly brilliant red color. Then, the quiet "eeeee" sound began, and he suddenly understood that his daft sod of a boyfriend had only just now read the note.

Fondness fought with exasperation, and amusement emerged as the victor, as Incubus watched him depart from the kitchen. Now he felt kind of sorry for the oni Count would inevitably encounter.

Shaking his head with a small smile on his lips, he turned back to his work, adding will-o-wisps into the cauldron with considerably more care than before. Rather than looking like he'd be ready to headbutt the first person to bother him, he now appeared at peace with the world, despite the mask covering his face.

In retrospect, it had been silly of him to think that Count could just ignore what he'd written. The man had a lot of self-control, but he didn't have that good of a poker face.

Distracted by his thoughts, he was momentarily dumbfounded when he discovered he'd ran out of ingredients. A full set of Cloud Brew had somehow appeared on the nearby flat surface. Incubus eyed his hands skeptically, before shaking his head and turning his attention to the rest of the kitchen to see what everyone else was up to.

The minigame wasn't very complicated, so he supposed he shouldn't have been that surprised to find he could do it on autopilot.

"Well! Looks like I'm done with my brew~. Is anyone else in need of, ah, a hand?"

Things had been a little bit wild so far, to say nothing of the inherent insanity of this particular Aster being here at all, but things seemed to be settling down into the standard fare of a fancy quest in The World. Aster had relaxed considerably into the now-familiar momentum of their tasks. Brewing was an incredibly simple, almost entirely automatic process. Locating the ingredients seemed to have a few twists, but overall it was all pretty doable..

The Cleric listened attentively as the others split up the remaining tasks. Someone seemed to be in charge of each of the remaining ingredients, which meant that Aster would just have to lend his aid to someone once he'd finishe--

[Aster completed the brew!]

"Oh! Well, that worked out."

Having cleared yet another of the brews, it was time to choose a party member to assist. After briefly scanning the status of the others, Aster decided his efforts could best be used assisting Azrael in his quest for Caged Ghosts. He quickly checked the shelves for anything ephemeral or caged, but of course there were none to be found.

With a small sigh, he began exploring the cavern's extremities once again. "You'd think cages would be easy to spot..." And, in fact, as he uttered this musing he had nearly missed his objective. Pausing mid-stride, Aster took a few ginger steps back and glanced at the area that had caught the corner of his eye. As he moved backward, the Caged Ghosts shimmered into view once more. It seemed they could only be seen when sufficiently nearby. A classic trick, and one that could easily have taken everyone an age to discern. It seemed luck was on Aster's side. "Found the ghosts!"

He offered Azrael an assuring smile, hoping he hadn't taken any wind out of the man's sails, before moving back to yet another brewing pot.

"Flaming Spiders, Flaming Spiders..."

She looked around and flipped through some items available for interaction, eyeing her surroundings with patience. While she hadn't encountered them yet, it was only a matter of time until she would eventually bumped into what she needed; after all, this area was the event venue, and there would be nothing that she couldn't find around here. Still, to blindly search among all these ritual items was perhaps not the most methodical option to venture into... Maybe some backtracking would save her some time in this case.

She stopped blindly scurrying around and stood still for a minute as she took into account the name of the ingredient: Flaming Spiders. Creepy crawlies, flaming. Fire.

Macaron limited the scope of her search to places where fires were rampant, and possibly enough space for spiders to lurk around. She passed by a clay stove, walked two steps backwards and turned her attention to the fire under the medium-sized cauldron topped with a bamboo lid. She crouched, full of hope, and her eyes widened when she spotted Flaming Spiders walking around the burning stove fire. She reached into it and grabbed the Flaming Spiders, inflicting herself with burn damage that chipped at her HP per tick.

But she took a series of happy stride and brewed the Flame Brews, enough for the current party size, all while enduring the burn damage over time as she hummed.

And that was how she got the Flame Brews done.

Just then, Incubus who seemed to have finished his task asked the party if anyone needed help on theirs. Noticing the extended help offered with grace, she turned to reply to him.

"I have finished with my task, as well; all that's left is..."

Pulling up her UI, she skimmed through the task list and recited it over.

"Aster with the Shadow Brews, and Count who's still looking for Red Oni's Tears for the Dew Brews."

The wailing of oni in the back of the cave grew louder and louder with each dull thump of the flat of Count's scythe against an oni's head, and only once it had quieted down somewhat had Count returned with a jug full of Red Oni Tears, looking far less red in the face, and far more composed than he had exited. He immediately and silently got to work, gesturing Incubus over to help out.

"You brew two, I'll do three," he shortly half-stated, half-requested of Incubus, chucking enough of the tears into the brewing stand that he'd be able to quickly manage three sets of the Dew Brew.

He wasn't going to address what he had read, yet. Not in public. That was for later, out of the game, in private, where nobody would see or hear anything he told Incubus' player.

There really was no way Count could address it aloud at all.

Either way, he finished three out of five Dew Brews with the rage of a man who was unexpectedly hit on by his boyfriend, even though he really should have expected it, should have known better, should have been able to tell that hitting on him would result in that, aaaaaaaaaa.

Incubus noticed Aster looking around for the ghosts of the caged variety just when he managed to find them. He almost pouted - this meant there was nothing for him to do there. Inclining his head towards Macaron, he opened his mouth to respond just when Count returned, looking less red in the face, but still tense from embarrassment if Incubus was reading him correctly. He refrained from smirking, but only barely.

He'd heard the wailing all the way over here, and he wasn't entirely certain if Count could - or rather, would - refrain from whacking him over the head if he got too smug about this in front of other people.

"Alright," he agreed to the quasi-request. "That'll give me something to do."

Two out of five wouldn't be difficult. Incubus approached Count's working station and grabbed the rather plentiful tears, pouring them into a second pot and mixing... after resisting the urge to do something silly, like patting his long-suffering boyfriend on the butt. He had a feeling his proximity was enough of a challenge as things were.

Thus, with very little incident - besides him almost pouring tears onto himself while fumbling - he managed to make two sets of the Dew Brew.

After an interesting road, to say the least, it seemed like the ragtag brewing group was reaching the end of their task. While Azrael had, unfortunately, pretty much done nothing, the others had gotten the hang of things and were wrapping up the remaining quest items. Thanks to their teamwork, Incubus and Count had cleared a brew in record time, and now that he took a proper look it seemed Macaron was done as well. "Great joh, everyone!"

As if on queue, the concoction he'd been stirring reached its completed form.

[Aster obtained Shadow Brew x5]

After taking a few moments to take a mental inventory, the Cleric concluded that they had indeed reached their goal. "Looks like we got 'em all!" he quipped brightly as he moved closer to the others. He quickly distributed the duplicates of his brews to his three remaining party members. Azrael's would go to waste, he supposed, or maybe he'd get to keep his duplicates for fun? "So, uh, now what?"

"I shall not fear the truth."

Macaron observed her surroundings once again as the rest of the party took to finishing up on their leftover tasks. In no time at all, after one final cozy group meet-up [well, as cozy as a gathering in the middle of a yokai's kitchen could get, at the very least], they each had a complete set of brews lined up in their inventory slots.

The PC called Aster inquired as to what their next move would be since the system had not notified them of its completion status yet - so Macaron took a gander once again at the quest's description, and it turned out they still had one more thing left to do.

"We have all the brews now, so now we're going to present them to..."

"THERE IS NO SPACE HERE FOR LAZY YOKAIS, ALRIGHT?! YOU LOT OVER THERE, YOU'RE TAKING WAY TOO LONG, AREN'T YOU?! WHERE ARE MY BREWS!"

The blaring voice of the Head Cook once again quaked the room, an expression of panic mixed with fury as it spotted the group standing idly by in one spot. The yokai chef shot them a sharp glare, heat apparent in the way it furrowed its brows as it kept stirring the strange substance bubbling up within the giant cauldron in front of him with a gigantic wooden spoon.

"I SWEAR IF YOU'RE STILL GOING TO BUM I'M GONNA THROW ALL OF YOU IN HERE, TOO--"

"Wait!" Macaron ran up to the Head Cook who was still stirring as it stood on the wooden platform supported by the ladder. "We, uh, finished brewing! Please come down and take a look, we promise our stuff is of the most pristine quality for your needs - for Lord Orochi's needs!"

Cocking an eyebrow, the Head Cook slowed down and eventually rested his spoon against the lip of the cauldron and took a leap of faith to check on the party's submissions. Seeing that all of them still had their yokai disguises up, the chef had no doubt that they had indeed completed brewing the ingredients he needed to perfect its sake. With much needed vigor, the Head Cook grabbed their brews and went up the ladder once again before mixing the brews into the huge cauldron, scooping the finalized content into jugs that he soon redistributed to the players.

It threw compliments to them and it turned out it managed to keep its volume down now that its final task of preparing the best quality sake to present to Lord Orochi was finally accomplished. This marked the end of the grueling brewing adventure for the party, and with that a system notification would pop up on each player's screen, indicating the official completion of the quest.

"I'm so happy right now-- You are all such perfectly capable yokai! I'll make sure we're going to have a blast welcoming Lord Orochi and celebrating His resurrection; don't make me wait too long at the ceremonial site now!"

With that, the party was disbanded, and she gated out with a wave of temporary farewell - after all, she might bump into them again one day.
