Quest

Name: Protect the Grunty Farm!
Summary: [Instance Quest] A wave of tiger-like monsters have set their sights on Mac Anu's Grunty Farm! Protect the precious grunties. Head on to the outskirts of Mac Anu and talk to the Grunty Farm's Keeper NPC to start the quest.
Clear Conditions:
- Defeat 3 waves of tiger monsters.
- Defeat the tiger boss.
- Quest fail if even one grunty is killed.
Restrictions: lv1+, 3 players required, min. 5 posts per player.
Location: Delta Root Town Outskirts, farm area.
Rewards:
- 45exp
- 100gp
- Grunty Bell [Pet equipment. Increases your pet's exp gain by 5.]

"So, then other players will see my quest and know where to go?"

Lulu, the NPC who gave out quests sighed as she sorted through scrolls upon scrolls. "Yes, you've accepted it and it's on the board so that other players who stop by the shop can see you are waiting on two more people, and will head your way from there. You are free to head to the farm area now. It's just outside of town. And remember, you have to keep every single grunty alive. We won't trust you to accept this quest again if you fail, so do your best." Hachi's tail swayed back and forth as he clapped his hands together.

"You got it! I'm sure they'll be in good hands. I'll be on my way, now!" That being said, he wasted no time in waving goodbye to the NPC before heading through Mac Anu towards the destination marked on his mini map. The walk wasn't terribly time consuming, especially with the pep that was added to his step. He'd seen some of the people on his member address list were online, but decided to leave it up to chance on who would arrive.

The raccoon's lanky form stood leaned against the fence. There was also an NPC nearby, looking around expectantly. Hachi stood just outside his field of vision, he didn't want to trigger any kind of conversation or event until two more people arrived to do the quest with him. Oh, he hoped Lulu was telling the truth! Of course, why would she lie? Her whole job and purpose was to give quests. For now, his head bobbed to the music as he thought about the quest. Waves of tiger monsters, huh? And a boss. Well, it would be interesting, that was for su-

"-Woah, hey!" One of the grunties within the fence had nudged at his back through the gap, causing Hachi to lurch forward. Turning around, he could help but laugh. "
Listen! If I'm gonna be protecting you today, you better act right!" The grunty opened its mouth in a big, happy grin. Its tail whipped around as it shook its head back and forth. Hachi reached over the fence, his hands on each side of the grunty's big head.

"Look at you! Big guy! You're just a big ol' fella! Who's not gonna get eaten by tigers today!? Not you! Oh no, no, no!" His hands patted on the sides of the grunty's large face as the creature continued grinning and doing a happy little sway. He seemed so happy and content, not a care in the world. "You must have a pretty good life here. Me and whoever else comes along will have to make sure it stays that way. Huh, big guy?" The grunty bellowed slightly before turning his head and nudging his giant nose into one of Hachi's hands.

There are currently eight grunties at the farm. All seem to be in good health.

CHRONOS // Lv. 8 Flick Reaper

Chronos had accepted the grunty farm quest with a grain of salt. He didn't have a pet to speak of yet and it would be a while before he could get one that he wanted, but he still wanted to have his ducks in a row before then. He hummed softly as he walked through the streets of Mac Anu, his scythe slung over his shoulders in an idle position. It was more fun to carry it than let it just disappear into the in-game hammerspace of his inventory, after all.

When he spotted Hachi, he grinned, watching him interact with the grunty for a few moments before approaching. "Heya Hachi," he greeted, walking up to the fence and leaning one hip against it. He looked down at the Grunty, amused by their big, dumb faces. They looked totally different than the grunties in R:2, which were really only in the guilds and took on the appearance of the guildmaster. He thought he preferred these ones, honestly. "Doing the Protect the Grunty Farm quest?" he asked, though already knew the answer from the quest board. It was just polite. "Mind if I join you?"

Gabriel wasn't sure why he hadn't gotten around to doing this quest yet, but better late than never. With his oina Torri at his heels, the harvest cleric made his way out to the farmland on the outskirts of town, eager to accomplish what he hoped would be a straightforward task and hopeful there would be other people around doing the quest too so they could all help each other out. He was relieved to spot others, although he was also nervous for not knowing either one of them.

"Hello," he greeted from a comfortable distance away. "Are you preparing for the quest?" He clutched his staff tightly in both hands and looked between the two of them. Oh, he hoped he wasn't interrupting something! Gabriel clenched his jaw nervously.

When the familiar voice reached his ears, his head perked up, tail unintentionally swaying back and forth the moment that it registered as- Not only a familiar person, but it was Chronos! The flick reaper joined him by the fence, causing Hachi's tired gaze to slowly drag its way up to meet his. A somehow bigger grin stretched across his face. "Hey! So you saw my request at the shop!? It works after all! I was thinkin' of messaging you, but I wanted to see if the system actually worked-" Of course it worked! Why wouldn't it!?

He gave the grunty a couple more pats before standing up straight beside his friend, well. Not exactly straight- Even in the game his lanky form had a bit of a slouch. His eyes beamed towards Chronos as his grin stayed in place. "How lucky for me! Yes, please join me!" Just as he was getting the menu up and sending a party invite the Flick Reaper's way, another voice drew his attention. And a new face! And- holy level difference, batman! Not to mention, beside him this stranger had- "Aaaa-! A puppy!"

Hachi's eyes briefly looked Gabriel over but honed in on the oina following beside him. He'd seen people with pets before, of course he didn't have one yet but it was good to have the Grunty Bell ready for whenever he did decide to take that leap! Right? Much like in the real world, however, he kept his hands respectively to himself. Though it was hard. Plus it wasn't like the canine was actually a puppy.. All dog-like creatures were just that to Hachi. Puppy.

"Hm? Oh! Yeah, we are about to do the quest, you want in?" His grin had dropped from its dangerously large parameters when his gaze shifted from Chronos, but his overall demeanor was just as welcoming and excited as before. "Mind if I send you my member address along with the party invite? Here-" After finishing the invite he'd started for Chronos, he shot his member address and a second invite Gabriel's way. "Thaaat should take care of that, hey! You're a pretty high level! Not that I was worried about it in the first place, but good to know we are in experienced hands! Chronos is an awesome Flick Reaper, also!"

Gabriel being a stranger was unfortunately not enough to qualify for immunity for Hachi's gargantuan mouth, though the raccoon did make the effort to start heading towards the NPC at this point. The farmer caught sight of the trio and started bouncing up and down with a wave towards the party. "Oh, I'm Hachi, by the way! It's good to meet you! Thank you so much for coming on this quest with us- Oh heeeeey~" His eyes shifted from Gabriel over to the short NPC standing near the barn as they approached.

Farmer Yohan
"Thank goodness you guys have finally come! My grunties are in terrible danger! It's been reported that tiger beasts are making their way to my farm! And a lot of them! Please help me by getting rid of them before they can hurt my precious grunties and I'll reward you best I can." The little Tu Tribe beastman motioned out towards the field. Slowly, the grunties were assembling in a protective circle with their faces looking outward. It was as if they could sense the incoming danger.

"Hey! Don't sweat it, we're on the job! We all knew what we were getting into. You sit back and stay safe!" Even if Yohan was an NPC, Hachi reached out and patted his little shoulder, giving him a bit of a shake which jostled the guy- but also brought out a smile from his nervousness. "Ah! Yes! Thank you, adventurers!" Whenever his other two partymates were ready, Hachi would walk onto the field to join the grunties.

Prairie Tiger Cubs
In the far distance, a wave of six monsters can be seen approaching. They will arrive by next round.

A soft chuckle left his lips at the familiar enthusiasm, unable to help the smile on his face as Hachi beamed. It really was infectious. He had no idea how a raccoon-beastman managed to look so chipper all the time with that tired look about him. He accepted the party invite sent his way, turning as Hachi did toward the new player. Well, not new player, but player Chronos didn't know. And by the look of it, Hachi didn't know either. They had an Oina at their side, and Chronos looked it over curiously. He'd seen a few of them while doing his GM tasks but it wasn't exactly polite to stare at someone's pet while masquerading as a Generic GM NPC.

He had to at least try to look professional.

A slight nod toward Hachi as if he was worried the other might think he minded a third. It took three to do the quest, after all, and he'd like to complete it. It didn't matter with whom as long as they actually pulled their weight and didn't just stand around. Though Gabriel--according to Chronos's UI--was much higher-level than either of them. Hopefully he wouldn't mind too much that he was probably going to do a lot of the work.

The AI in this game always impressed him, really. With Hachi's reassurance, the farmer actually looked to be somewhat relieved at their assistance. He followed after Hachi, casting a quick glance at Gabriel, and pulled his scythe from his shoulder. Six monsters in the distance, so long as they stayed relatively close together he could hit them all with a nice Wicked Strike and get some damage rolling in. "Let's do it."

Hachi grins over at Chronos as the Flick Reaper joins him on the field. "Heck yeah! Let's do this!" The distance of the approaching tigers is becoming less and less far, but Hachi notices it's still only him and Chronos on the field, though they are still technically a party of three.. Sleepy, orange eyes shift over to their third who is still standing in the same spot. Were they..? AFK..?

The grunties start to stir, and he's forced to bring his attention back to the upcoming battle at hand. "I think it might end up being just the two of us, man.. Are you good with that?" His stance and face reflect confidence, but his tone is more gentle so that Chronos knows it's fine for them to back out if he's not up for the added challenge. Especially with the latest monster leveling rework. They would definitely have to be a little bit more creative when defending these grunties, especially with just the two of them.

Prairie Tiger Cub

The six tiger cubs are upon the field now, heading straight for the grunties. Though, their attention will be diverted towards anyone who interrupts their stride. They are basic enemies with only basic physical attacks like biting and scratching. Since they are young, they move clumsily. Fast, but not calculated.

Hachi charges forward, leaping up and running across the panicking grunties' backs as they bellowed. Leaping on the grass before the group of tiger cubs, all six- wait. Six tigers.. Three eyes each... Six times three- All eighteen of their eyes glare up at the raccoon man as they make tiny, but mighty, roars and start running after him instead. "Wait, I didn't think this through! Chronosssss~!" Hachi calls towards his party mate as the tiger cubs chase him around the field, batting at his big poofy tail and trying to bite it.

All eight grunties are in good health and seem to settle a bit watching the tiger cubs chase Hachi around. There are six enemies remaining on the field and two more waves left to go after this one is defeated.

Chronos twirled his scythe, looking at their third member for a moment or two before focusing on the tiger cubs as they came scampering toward them. "I think we can handle it," he said with his own brand of confidence. After all, they were both DPS classes--as long as they didn't run out of healing potions before the boss fight, they should be fine. Right? They'd have to worry about the grunties most of all, considering one of their number was just MIA and if any of the Grunties died it was a failure. "I think as long as we can keep them away from the grunties we'll be alright. Between your close-combat and my mid-ranged, it shouldn't be too hard.

He couldn't help but laugh as Hachi realized the error of his ways seconds after it was too late to change his course. Readying his weapon, he moved forward, following after Hachi and making sure to keep all six of the tiger cubs in his line of sight. Making sure none of them broke off to focus on the grunties.

Running to catch up to Hachi, he swing his scythe in a Wicked Strike, hitting the cluster of cubs and hopefully pulling the attention off of his teammate. If they came toward him, he'd be able to Repel and cause them to Stagger, which would give Hachi and himself a moment to get some hits in. Hopefully.

Hachi ran, bright orange eyes looking over his shoulder as Chronos joined in the chase behind the unaware cubs who were still snapping after the poor blademaster's tail. He kept swishing his tail back and forth, out of the grasp of their tiny- but deadly little jaws. He's briefly distracted, watching as the Flick Reaper sends a Wicked Strike attack towards the small monsters. Freaking cool, man..! Though, his admiration is short lived as his foot connects with a wheelbarrow that was in his path and sends his lanky form over it and onto the ground.

Prairie Tiger Cub

The six tiger cubs are distracted from chasing Hachi when they are ALL hit with Chronos' attack. They hiss and growl as they turn their attention towards the Flick Reaper. However, as they go to pile on him instead, they are affected by his Repel- Being sent back towards Hachi.

"That's my cue..!" Hachi pushes himself up off the ground in one fluid motion, leaping over the wheelbarrow with his sword drawn. Not wanting to waste the stagger condition that Chronos inflicted, he quickly twists the sword around and turns it in quick succession into each tiger cub as he comes into contact with them in a Shadow Dragon attack. Caught in a surprise attack twice gave the cubs little fighting chance, they stood no chance against the forces of these two as their forms fell to the ground and started disappearing one after the other.

"Phew.. That wasn't so bad. Thanks for pulling through for me~" Hachi stands near Chronos with a big, toothy grin. His tone is filled with genuine gratitude. Though, it wouldn't be long before the sound of paws hitting the grass snatched away his short attention span once more.

Prairie Tiger Cub

Two more cubs can be seen leading the charge. Because Chronos and Hachi stand in between them and the grunties, one immediately starts heading for Hachi while the other heads towards Chronos. That's not all, however..

Prairie Tiger Adolescent

Behind those cubs come charging two tigers who were quite a bit bigger. They seemed more sure in their stride as their speed pushed them past the smaller cubs. One will charge towards Chronos and the other, Hachi, both attempting to hit the men with a *Tiger's Claw attack.

Hachi is slow to react as the tiger sinks his claws into him, but is able to smack away the smaller cub as it comes running up behind the adolescent tiger. "Damn! Okay! These ones are a little different from the smaller kitties.. Yowch!" He obviously wasn't in actual pain, but just vocalizing the hit- Though his excited grin remains.

All eight grunties are in good health, but starting to panic again upon seeing more tigers in their field. They bellow and move around within their circle. The first wave has been defeated, the second wave has begun and there are four enemies on the field all at full health. There is one final wave and a boss fight after this wave is defeated.

*Tiger's Claw:
A brutal physical attack that grows stronger as Prairie Tigers age as they learn how to use their claws. At adolescent age, it does medium damage with a 50% chance of causing Rend.

However, at the adult stage, the damage output is high and Rend is guaranteed.
