//HOW_TO_PLAY
This is a condensed guide for those who are not familiar with the .Hack series or its games. If you find that your questions are still not answered by this guide, feel free to ask around and someone will definitely answer you and we might even add your question to the FAQ thread.
//SETTING
The .hack series takes place mainly within "The World", a fictional MMORPG published and maintained by the also fictional CyberConnect Corporation, known as the CC Corporation. The World's overall landscapes depict a general sense of fantasy and the surreal. In the case of this revision of The World, called R:Fusion, the game's landscapes also cover the more steam punk thematic of its previous predecesor, The World R:2. The timeframe of the world outside the game is based in a future where technology has advanced to the point that virtual gaming has reached its zenith and people can play using HDMs of various designs. Although rping takes place solely within the game, we should by no means forget that players are still based in the real world and so everything that happens there will be affecting them.
The World consists of a cluster of servers distributed around the world. When players log in, they materialize in the Root Town of the server they last used.
//ROOT_TOWNS
Each server in The World has its own unique Root Town. They are the starting and ending point of any gaming session. When you first create your character within The World, it is born into the newbie root town known as Mac Anu, in the Delta Server. In order to properly log out of the game, the player must be in a Root Town. Each Root Town has a Chaos Gate, a large revolving ring used to transport players to areas or other servers. To transport to an Area, a series of three keywords must be entered.
In .hack//Infinity, a character's level does not prohibit the character from visiting the Root Towns of servers that are higher leveled than the character. You can go into any server you want and visit its root town, but the equipment level of higher-level servers and such will be beyond your abilities, so you likely won't be able to buy or equip any of it.
//PLAYING_IN_FIELDS_AND_DUNGEONS
Players warp directly to any area they want using the game's main hub, known as a Chaos Gate. Simply walk up to the gate, choose three keywords from a list and voila: instant access to bugs and beasts. Once you use the Chaos Gate to get a dungeon, you can initiate battle by coming into contact with any group of monsters you see on the field. You can even ride up and crash right into them via a mount, which you can acquire from an event or bought from the shop. For how to create a field here, head to the FIELDS AND DUNGEONS guide.
//PARTYING_&_MAKING_FRIENDS
Parties in The World can be made anywhere a player is physically meeting with another player. If the party is formed in a root town, from there everyone warps to the field as a team. You also first need to gain that member's Member Address to be able to invite said person into your party. A player's Member Address is their unique identifier in The World. This address is used for basic communications, including Instant Messaging as well as some minor offline communication such as mailing. Party size can be up to 3 members.
*Party size for [Raid] quests can be up to 6 members.
//LEVELING_&_GP(money)
The way to level ICly is by the classic rules of MMOs, which is to grind your way up. In other words, just defeat monsters. In OOC terms, your character will gain 1 level for every certain amount of IC posts, which can be obtained from posting in the "Launch The World" board, the BBS, and by Mailing.
GP, or the game's currency, is only gained as event rewards and through IC posts in the game's servers. Posts in the Mail Server and the BBS will provide none. You gain up to 10 GP per post and 15 per new thread. You can also gain bonus GP by posting a set number of times per week. You can easily gain up to 500 extra GP in a week if you just post enough. Though it's quite the challenge!
//PETS_&_MOUNTS
Pets exists within R:Fusion to aid the user in battles. Some of them boost your stats and can even help attack while others focus solely on battling or just solely on boosting stats. Mounts, on the other hand, are a form of transportation across fields. Some of them help boost your stats, while others aid in battle. With mounts you can crash into groups of monsters and ambush them a lot more easily. Head to PETS to see which are currently available.
